A curse deep inside the earth
A fire hot, sending water into the sky
A storm so calm no one could hear it
The water fell to drown the fire
Elementals: We are their creation, their children. Kapha, Pitta, Vata. What are you made of? What is your nature?
The serpent ate the lamb, and the lion's voice cracked. "What have we done?"
Destroyed, everything undone. The fire grew too high and hot that even the lion could not swallow it. The earth too round and heavy for the serpent to drag back down. And so the water rose up, out from the river banks and shorelines, and broke free from the air above which held it captive for so long. She swallowed the fire and covered the earth, swearing to dissolve it away for good. But this did not appease the air. So he blew back, pushing the many waters back into their places, albeit in overflow. This is why they are ever pulling one another, and the sea is ever creeping further and further onto the earth.
Air's giant wrath scooped up the fires and swept away into its grasp some of the earth. He promised the sea to do his part, to hold them in their places and to keep them from getting too heavy. The seas rose once more, taking some fire and earth for herself. She too would do her part, and promised never to drown the others so long as they did not drown her.
The earth grew steady and the fire shrunk down. They agreed never to rage so largely again, so long as the sky and the sea did not threaten them.
And so they all came together for a brief moment - land, sky, fire, and water - and created their treaty. This is how Kapha, Pitta, and Vata came to be. And then they, the children of the treaty, the Great Balance, went on to have children of their own.
The elements all agreed that they would work together to care for their creation, and their grandchildren.
